Porto is Europe's latest tourist discovery and promises to continue to fascinate the visitors' hearts and the desire for the investment.
The year of 2016 was, according to local authorities, the best ever for the industry, attracting almost 1.5 million tourists.
Data from the National Statistics Institute show that between January and November last year, the North region (where Porto is included) attracted 3.55 million guests (11.4% more than in the previous year).
In addition, 6.46 million overnight stays were generated, an increase of 12.9% over 2015.
First place was achieved, according to European Best Destinations, with the voting of travelers from the United States, United Kingdom, France, Denmark, South Africa, South Korea or Ireland, for example.
"Porto is exceptional in many ways ... and architecture, culture, gastronomy, commerce, meetings and discovery will seduce you," can be read at the website of the organization that elected Porto as the best European destination.
This is another way of the Porto's recognition as a destination of quality that preserves authenticity, tradition and that has the capacity to conquer for its colors, flavors and magic.
Recent data from the Hotel Association of Portugal show that, for the first time, Porto Metropolitan Area is the national leader in the hotel operation. The data indicate an occupation rate of 90% in Porto Metropolitan Area, thus exceeding for the first time the capital of the country that has an occupancy of 88%.
